Phrase of the week: to be born with a silver spoon in your mouth

We use this expression to describe people who are born into rich families who have a lot of privileges. Perhaps we feel that they have more privileges than they have earned. It is not used as a compliment.

For example: "Simon has never worked hard in all his life. He was born with a silver spoon in his mouth."

The expression can also be used to emphasise how hard someone has worked to reach their position of wealth.

For example: "I have worked very hard to get to where I am today. I wasn't born with a silver spoon in my mouth, you know!"

In this case, the person now has some wealth but they started from zero. They weren't born wealthy.
